Website Tips for New Website Owners
Many potential clients that request a website design quote or a search engine optimization quote simply think that having a website on the internet is all that is required to gain more business is the reason why I wrote this page. I will not get technical but I will try to explain as much as possible for website owners to understand why just having a website don’t make much of a difference “unless the website content is original and was processed through search engine optimization.”
More often than not new website owners have a hard time understanding why a website needs optimization or why they cannot copy someone else’s text. I also come across many website owners that are left in the dark by their previous website designer. A reason for this could be that a website designer is limited in his/her knowledge or they just choose not to volunteer any information risking loosing a client. It’s unfortunate but customer service now days not only in this field but everywhere is getting worse. Ask questions when hiring a website designer or a SEO Expert.
- One time a client was actually told by his designer that if he had a popular keyword in the title bar his web page would show up on page one of Google. It's not that simple!
- Her previous designer never informed her that there was nothing more important than original and relevant text, went on to copy and paste most of her website text. About a year later, she requested a website optimization quote from Website Design Toronto.net asking why her beautiful website was not getting any visibility. I see this over and over again.
- As I always do, I answer all questions a client will have and more. Whether it’s about building a website design, search engine optimization or link building I like to make certain that a client clearly understands the web development process to succeed a website.
When you first submit your new website to Google, days or weeks after a submission Googlebot will fetch your webpage or webpages and pass it on to Google’s Index Database. Think of Google’s index as a library with millions of books.
How do you quickly find a reference or a chapter in a book?
By turning to the index page, which you can say, uses a keyword or a short keyword phrase to describe a chapter. In Google’s index, the indexer stores your webpage in alphabetical order according to the keyword terms or search terms if you will. This is a perfect reason to research and find proper keywords related to your services or product.
Keyword Search
Everybody searches the internet differently using different words in their browsers search box. Having billions of search queries every single day actually creates popular keywords, which are stored by search engines. The more popular a keyword the more your website has a chance to better ranking and to show up on a computer screen. Note, although you might think a keyword is popular does not mean it is. This is another good reason why one should research keywords before writing text content for a webpage. A SEO Copywriter might come in handy!
How Google Rank a Webpage?
To judge the importance of a webpage Google uses the Google PageRank. Comparing your webpage with many other relevant webpages, the PageRank System will give your webpage a value. If you copy text content from another website, your website being the latest addition to the index, what do you think will happen here? The worst case I ever noticed was a website that actually got ban from the internet for having a lot of copied text from another site. You can actually report to Google a copywright infringement complaint. Therefore be aware, you get red flag, “starting all over” are keywords that you will hear when you turn to a SEO Expert for help.
In Google’s case, from the keywords in the title bar to the on page content, to the exact location of the each words, to subdivisions and the pages link to the webpage in questions are all analyzed carefully leaving unwanted pages on the back seat. Google as a service to the World Wide Web scrutinize all pages to return the most relevant search results. The latter also implies that even if your home page is original but others are repeating themselves with similar content it will affect the results. The same is true; when it comes to link exchange, you only want quality relevant links.
For search engines to keep their database fresh they always re-crawls active websites more often than one that sits with no activities. Larger sites such as news sites obviously have many updates, therefore, a search engine will return and search for new pages many times a day whiles an average website might only get a visit every few weeks. No activities mean less visits form search engines. That also means if your competition takes their website more seriously than you do, it gives them the advantage. To update your site constantly is extremely important and it will make a difference.
